Donald Trump Pressured Arizona Governor to Overturn 2020 Election Results - Former President Donald Trump has refused to accept the results of the 2020 election and has continued to spread a narrative that the election was stolen.
It came out last week that following his defeat, the then-president spoke to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and pressured him to overturn the results in the Grand Canyon State.
According to The Washington Post, which first reported the allegations on Saturday, Trump called Ducey and asked the governor to find "fraud" that could help him overturn the loss in the state. Trump narrowly lost Arizona to Joe Biden by fewer than 11,000 votes.
There is no recording of the call between the president and the Arizona governor, according to a source familiar with the matter. However, it was also alleged that Trump had sought to dispatch former Vice President Mike Pence to pressure Ducey into finding fraudulent votes in the state. Though Pence did call Ducey multiple times in the aftermath of the election, he did not follow those orders. Pence reportedly told the governor that if there was any hard evidence of voter fraud to report it appropriately.
In an interview on Saturday with "Face the Nation," the former vice president stated that there was "no pressure involved" in former President Trump's requests for him to call Ducey in the days and weeks following the 2020 election.
"I did check in, with not only Gov. Ducey, but other governors and states that were going through the legal process of reviewing their election results," Pence told "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan. "But there was no pressure involved. Margaret, I was calling to get an update. I passed along that information to the president. It was no more, no less, than that."

A spokesperson for Ducey told ABC News via a statement that this new reporting was "nothing more than a 'copy and paste' of a compilation of articles from the past two years, disguised as something new."

"Governor Ducey defended the results of Arizona’s 2020 election, he certified the election, and he made it clear that the certification provided a trigger for credible complaints backed by evidence to be brought forward. None were ever brought forward. The Governor stands by his action to certify the election and considers the issue to be in the rear view mirror — it's time to move on," the spokesperson said in a statement.
In addition, a spokesman for Ducey told CNN last week that the former governor had not been contacted by the office of special counsel Jack Smith, who is currently investigating efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 elections.
The news outlet also noted that the Trump campaign in 2020 had reached out to various state officials, which included Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger – who was interviewed by Smith – and sought to seek ways to overturn the election results.
In Georgia, Trump reportedly asked the secretary of state to "find 11,780" votes.

The Trump campaign has responded to the reports from the paper of record, maintaining that it is still the former president's view that the "2020 Presidential election was rigged and stolen," however it did not refute the actual reporting."These witch-hunts are designed to interfere and meddle in the 2024 election in an attempt to prevent President Trump from returning to the White House to make this country great again," the statement from Trump's campaign said.
